Chef Loong @ SS2

I was told of this restaurant by my ex-colleagues on a few occasion and finally we managed to pay it a visit a few weeks back. I was really happy with the lunch over there and decided to bring my lunch buddy over. The restaurant is located at SS2 same row as the police station. The restaurant is managed by a lady boss who is very friendly and glad to introduce what is good over there. Since it's my second visit, I know what I wanted to order and recommended my lunch buddy something too.

The set that we ordered come with a glass of cooling home made sugar cane chestnut. If you noticed from the above picture, one of the drink are different as they ran out of sugar cane and gave me something else. They even have winter melon too offer you if you wanted.

The set also come with their soup of the day. It's nothing spectacular here but something to warm your tummy up before the main course. The soup is warm and not too plain and not too salty. Your average bowl of soup.

Stirred Fried Spicy Rice Flour Roll - RM5.50
This might looked like a simple dish but trust me it's delicious. It's actually stir fried chee cheong fun. But they added sesame seed, eggs and some garlic on it. If you bite on it, you have this bit of crunchy texture on it as the surface are fried too a bit burn. So there's this crispy bite to it. Trust me, it's really nice.

Shanghai Steamed Double Boiled Soup Dumpling
This is also part of the set that we ordered. Yes, it's Siew Loong bao. Size is your average steam dumpling and the soup inside isn't that half bad. Actually it's quite alright. Don't compared to the RM9 per set over at i-Dragon over here and you be having a cheap good Shanghai dumpling. Ala-carte are selling for RM4 I think.

Stir Fried Spicy Ramen - RM13.80
The set which I had ordered is their stir fried spicy ramen and I ordered mine extra spicy. Looks simple but the noodle are tangy and nice to bite on. Not too salty or over cooked but just nice. Prawns are a bit sad but for the price I am paying and all the above side dishes, I am alright with it.

Spicy Fried Rice - RM13.80
My partner in crime had ordered their spicy fried rice. It's not that spicy actually. Nothing special bout the fried rice here. A bit of floss on top with fresh prawns to go with the fried rice. Again, I am emphasizing that the set is value for money. Nothing too fancy but think about what you're having.

Overall, we had a really filling lunch and almost didn't managed to finish the side dishes. I think nowadays, we spend around RM10+ for lunch alone with drinks sometimes cost about RM4-6. I am talking about eating out at restaurant and not economy rice of course. So why not eat something worth your money and also good at the same time. Other than the above, they have ten over sets for you to choose from. So do have a try and let me know what you think. (Rating: 4 out of 5)

Grand Imperial Kitchen @ Empire Gallery

My last visit to Grand Imperial would be luncheon with my colleagues at BSC. This time around when I got an invitation for lunch again at their new outlet at Empire, I quickly said YES. When I arrived, the place was packed but luckily we managed to get a seat and straight away looked through their menu. From the menu, we could see that the restaurant focuses more on their individual super value set rather than their dim sum. Don't get me wrong, they still have dim sum but not as much as the one over at their other larger outlet.

The main objective of our trip over was to try out their so-called super value set. They have 10 value sets in their menu. Most of the sets price ranges from RM11.80++. They have the common, Roasted Pork rice, Curry Chicken, Yang Chow fried rice, Braised Ginger Duck, Lamb Belly, Chicken Curry Noodles, BBQ Sliced Pork Noodles, La Mian Soup with Preserved Vegetable & Shredded Pork and La Mian with Minced Meat with Mushroom.

The first that we ordered would be their famous Roasted Pork rice. The rice also come with fried egg. I think all of their set also come with fried egg. The roast pork although not as good as the one we had at BSC but still it's above average. Portion was alright I guess. My friend even ordered an extra bowl of plain rice and remember to get some extra sauce from them too. If you're really hungry don't order this.

I had decided to order their Yang Chow fried rice. I regretted ordering it when I saw the size of it. I was really hungry that afternoon and the portion was really small. Well, other than the portion which I didn't really satisfied with, the taste was really good and the prawns are fresh and plenty too. Remember to get plenty of chili oil from them to go with the fried rice. Again, don't order this if you are hungry.

I should had ordered this as the portion was really generous. This is their Curry Chicken Noodle. The noodle was at least 1.5 portion. The noodle is a bit different from the one that we had outside. It's really thin and not too soft. Just the way I like it. The curry chicken was strong of curry powder but still it's alright. I don't expect any authentic curry from a Chinese Restaurant anyway. Chicken was really generous too.

The Curry Chicken Noodle set also come with soup dumpling. And all cost the same as my fried rice and also roasted pork rice. You can order this if you're really hungry. Well, at least I think it's filling and worth my money.

Steamed Siew Mai with Prawns - RM4.80
We won't miss the chance to try out their famous dim sum and we decided to start with the basic. Their steamed Siew Mai with prawns isn't a fight to the one over at BSC but still really good comparing with others. Prawns are fresh and importantly it's not all wet like it's over cook.

Steamed Glutinous Rice - RM4.80
Next would be their Lou Mai Kai or steamed glutinous rice. Surprisingly it's really good. There's the usual mushroom, fried pork and chicken. The rice isn't that sticky though but still it's alright with me overall.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the quality of the food as in their taste. Service I wasn't that satisfied. Well maybe they are still new since the restaurant had just open. The place was really pack throughout lunch hour. The restaurant isn't that large so it's called 'Kitchen' in their name. The wanna do some sort like a quick lunch outlet for their customers. I like that, cause you won't think that the place only serve expensive food and we can also have a taste of their good food with a reasonable price. (Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0)

Oriental Pavilion @ Jaya 33

I had always heard good reviews from this restaurant and when a friend asked me for lunch, I quickly agreed to it. The name of the restaurant is Oriental Pavilion which was formerly situated inside Jaya Supermarket previously. It's located inside Jaya 33 right now. The place was quite busy during lunch hour but luckily we managed to get a table. We went through the menu and decided to go with dim sum rather than fried rice or noodle. My friend said something which caught my attention that day. He said that, a person averaging consume 3 sets of dim sum and that would just be enough. Anything more than that would be too much. Interesting~!
Steamed Siew Mai - RM7.00
It took some time before the siew mai was served. From the looks of it, it's not as I imagine it would be. It's a bit dry and not that good. Taste wise, it's just normal and nothing special. You can have this outside anywhere. The best I had would still be Grand Imperial. Their price are RM1 more expensive too over here.

Steamed Shredded Mushroom Dumpling - RM7.00
Again there are nothing special about this dish. The skin isn't that thick but maybe it's just the lack of taste and texture of the dim sum itself. Nothing special really.

Shredded Bean Curd Roll with Thai Sauce - RM6.00
I was really looking forward for this but sadly when it arrived, I lost my appetite. As you can see, the Thai sauce isn't wrapped around the bean curd but spilled all over the plate. I think it's the way they prepared the dish is the main problem. A good dish gone wrong. Wasted~!

Steamed Imperial Har Kau - RM7.00
The name is so good. But I am not a big fan of Har Kau anyway. The prawns are fresh but if I remembered correctly, the dish isn't that hot anyway.

Char Siew Bao
I had high hope on this. My friends said it was good but the flour is too thick for me and the sauce isn't that tasty. Again, the one I had over at Grand Imperial is one of the best I had till date.

Chicken Leg in Sweet & Sour Sauce
We didn't really ordered this but when they brought it over, my friend decided to give it a try. Again I am not a big fan of the dish. We didn't finished the dish at the end as it wasn't that tasty. The sauce was just normal and nothing particularly interesting.

Steamed Fish Ball - RM5.00
Sorry, no comment since I didn't even tasted one. My friend tried it and said it was just normal.

Roasted Pork (Siew Yuk)
The portion was alright and quite tasty. The upper layer are crunchy and the layer of fat and lean meat are evenly distributed too. This could be the highlight of my luncheon.

Loh Mai Kai - RM6.00
Surprisingly this is good. There are a lot of ingredients too. Namely mushroom, slice abalone, boneless chicken and scallop. This is one good dish.

Hokkien Noodle with Extra Lard
This is definitely something that I wouldn't imagine that I would eat during dim sum session, Hokkien Noodle. The waitress mentioned that it's one of their recommended dish over there. We ordered with extra fried lard too and extra it is. The whole plate was covered by lard when it arrived. Not the best I had, but definitely worth my money.

So how was the lunch? Overall, it wasn't that spectacular or good as I heard. The highlight of the luncheon would be the roasted pork and loh mai kai. Will I be back? I don't think so. Might be going back if someone bought me lunch. Maybe the a la carte are better. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Grand Imperial @ Bangsar

This is my second trip over Grand Imperial at Bangsar. Got an invitation for dim sum session with my 'snake kaki' last Friday afternoon. We arrived quite early before lunch hour so it wasn't that pack. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the shopping mall. There are only two Chinese restaurant over there being Ming Court the other one. As mentioned, the main objective for the day would be their dim sum and we tried to ordered as much as possible. So let the drum rolls.

Steamed 'Siew Mai' with Prawn - RM7.00
I think this is a must order dish if you're eating dim sum. So this is the first we ordered. Size is small but the content was really generous. The prawns are really fresh and springy. The fish eggs on top of the siew mai also looked so appetizing. We ordered a second for this dish.

Steamed Pork Ribs with Pumpkin in Black Bean Paste - RM6.30
Actually I am not into pork ribs but this plate of ribs really changed my perception. The pork ribs was really soft and don't stick to the teeth like the one that I had before. They had sliced pumpkin with black bean paste to go with the steamed pork ribs. Not bad at all.

Shanghai 'Xiao Loong Bao' - RM6.00
The dumpling actually wasn't that pricey as I thought. Although it's not as tasty as the one I had over at Dragon-I but I guess for the price you're paying, it's alright.

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun - RM6.00
These buns really taste very good. Maybe one of the best I had to date. The buns are soft and hot. The BBQ pork inside are juicy and aplenty too. Just the way I like it.

Shark Fin Dumpling Soup - RM12.00
This dish is called Koon Tong Kau in Chinese if you're wondering. Shark fin? Yup, there are moderate amount of shark fin inside. Other then that, there are sliced mushrooms and some other ingredients. Actually there are nothing much special bout this soup but we just wanted to try it out.

Steamed Beef Ball - RM6.00
When I first looked at the beef balls, I was really looking forward to it, but sadly it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I think it wasn't as pack and stuffed as I thought it would be.

Roasted Pork with Mustard Sauce
This plate of roasted pork was really good. The top skin was extra crispy and the bottom layer are soft and juicy. Portion wasn't that much so we ordered two plates. Actually they chopped off half of the pork as you can from the picture above. So it's really small.

Pig's Giblet Porridge - RM8.00
Actually it wasn't my custom to order porridge during my dim sum session but this bowl of porridge change my opinion. Other then the fact that the size of the porridge, but also the content of it. The fried crullers inside still are fresh and crispy which I really like. The porridge are so soft and tasty. Totally love it.

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Abalone - RM9.00
I am really into steamed glutinous rice if you been following my blog. Was really looking forward to the 'lou mai kai' but it isn't as good as I thought it would be. I mean it's OK, but it didn't blow me away with it.

Steamed 'Cheong Fan' with Prawns - RM8.00
They have three type of Cheong Fan namely, Spring Roll and BBQ and we ordered their recommendation which is Prawns. And I think the decision was right. The prawns are large, juicy and springy. But the cheong fan must be accompanied with their spicy paste.

Steamed Beancurd Skin Roll - RM7.00
To be frank this beancurd roll isn't my plate of dim sum. I like my bean curd skin roll to be sweet and sour and maybe a bit spicy. This is a bit plain.

Japanese Cucumber with Ham
OK, I am not too sure what is this dish called actually. Basically it's basically Japanese Cucumber roll with ham. The dish is topped with some mint sauce. Isn't that bad but also not that good either.

Baked BBQ with Pork Pastries - RM6.00
Trust me, the size are really that small. And there are only 4 pieces only. Imagine char siew in fried bun. The outer skin are crispy and the pork are juicy inside. Not bad.

Steamed Prawn Dumpling - RM7.00
We ordered this almost to the end of our 'expedition'. Isn't really good actually. A bit disappointed of the dumpling cause there wasn't much to look forward about.

Egg Yolk Bun
I am not sure what is the exact price for the buns but it comes in a set of 3 buns. This is my first taste of 'Lau Sa'. Actually this bun is really good but since we ate a lot so this is a bit too much for me.

Deep Fried Salad Prawn - RM7.00
This isn't my plate of dim sum also. They didn't even gave us any mayo to go with it. So it's a bit dry when we consumed it. Nothing much special bout it.

Chilled Pomelo with Mango Cream - RM6.00
This is one of their famous dessert. Portion is sufficient for a single person but we did shared the dessert as we ordered three. This is actually one of HK famous dessert. The taste of mango was really soothing and not too sweet. Friend did mentioned it was a bit different from the one he had over at HK.

Chilled Avacado Cream with Sago - RM7.00
This is another recommended dessert by the captain. You can really taste the avacado cream but again not too sweet. But I don't think everyone would like it as not everyone are into avacado.

Chilled Lemon Grass Jelly with Sea Coconut - RM6.00
Actually I was really looking forward to this dessert as I like sea coconut. Again, not everyone like this dessert as it has lemon grass. At least that is my friend's feedback. A cool soothing dessert.

At the end of the lunch, we were all full and really satisfied with most of the food that we had. I could say that this could be one of the best dim sum restaurant I went to lately. Would really recommend to my friends who like dim sum. The damage for all the lunch come about RM160++. But it was worth the money as what we had was really fresh and filling. Axian Dim Sum @ Bandar Puteri

I first come to know about this place few months back when it's just operated. If I am not mistaken they started operation on the 11 June this year. But business is really good from the looks of it. I had passed by a few times before this and it was always packed. So this time around, I decided to give it a try although I am not packing in with a lot of expectation. If you still doesn't know by now, the place is owned by the TV host, Axian. But that is not the reason I am there. Just wanna know what's the hype about.

First on the table would be their fried yam with char siew. Skin is crispy and the pork is warm, in other words, it's fresh. But sadly the taste isn't that attracting as it would be. This is my own opinion, but I like my char siew sauce to be red. Again, it was a bit plain to me. (RM3.50)

This is a must order for me in any dim sum restaurant, Loh Mai Kai. From the texture or the looks of it, it's quite delicious. And surprisingly it is. The glutinous rice is not under cook but one set back is the sauce isn't that evenly distributed into the rice. So you got uneven taste all over the rice which  I hate. The mushroom and char siew are fresh and delicious, luckily. (RM3.50)

I think they called this their Sakura Pork or what we like to called Siew Mai. Fresh and warm with the pork inside being soft. I like this one. Nothing spectacular but it's alright. (RM3.50)

Wanted to try out their char siew bao and was startled that it comes in 3. But luckily it's not that large. The char siew was alright but I like the one from Jin Xiang actually. One other thing is the bun sticks to the teeth meaning that the flour or the process of steaming the bun isn't that good. Well this is what babe said as she's in the flour industry. (RM4.50)

Yes, siew loong bao. It's freshly made once you order it. Although I need to wait for this dish but I thought it would be good. The soup was a plenty but you can't really compare this with Dragon-I actually. (RM6.00)

Babe wanted to order this but didn't know what it's called and I was trying to figured out what she wanted and finally I got what she wanted, Steamed Pork Ribs. I am not a big fan of Pai Kuat but I am willing to try. It's fresh but a bit too annoying to me as it always stick in between my teeth. But babe like it. (RM4.50)

Overall, the food are average but the service is really good. The environment is clean and the service is fast too. Although they occupied two lot and road side, but they are still full. I think people really like something new in the neighborhood. This is nothing special but just another dim sum restaurant who happen to be own by a famous food TV host. Try it out and let me know what you think. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)
