Kung Fu Pan Mee @ Puchong

We had Kung Fu Panda and now we have Kung Fu Pan Mee. I was driving around Puchong area during the weekend looking for food and babe wanted pan mee. So happened we come across this restaurant which their name captured our attention and decided to stop our search and try it out. The place is located at Pusat Bandar Puchong opposite IOI Boulevard. When we arrived, there wasn't much customers but as we leave, the place was half full. There were so many type of pan mee in their menu. They are not being cocky when they put their name as Kung Fu pan mee.

Hong Kong Siu Ji Pan Mee (Sauce) - RM5.90
We wanted to try something special and different, so we went for this plate of pan mee. It's filled with minced pork, sliced mushroom and fried onions. This seemed simple but when you add their chilly flakes on top, it's really something else. It's salty and spicy at the same time. Not bad.

Jiu Pai Jiong Fei Pan Mee (Braised Gravy Sauce) RM7.90
I had decided to not order their spicy pan mee and try this braised beef pan mee. As you can see the pan mee is all covered by the thick braised beef sauce on top. There's mushrooms and also broccoli which I really like. I had added their chilly flakes on it and it becomes spicy and trust me it's really nice. The portion of braised beef is really generous. I am so full after this bowl of pan mee.

Fried Salted Tofu - RM4.00
I ordered this side dish as it seemed interesting and simple at the same time. It's actually white tofu fried to crisp with some salt on top of it. Word of caution, don't put the whole piece of tofu into your mouth as it's damn HOT. Simple and nothing special.

This is just two type of pan mee in their menu. I am definitely going back with friends maybe to try more of their pan mee. It's not the best pan mee I had but definitely something different. One think I found out is that their drinks are so cheap. Most of their drinks are below RM3. Even their white coffee or lemon ice. This is definitely a plus point for me, how bout you? Do let me know what you think. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Kin Kin Curry Pan Mee @ Jalan TAR

I heard that this is one of the oldest Chili Pan Mee in town. It's located off Jalan T.A.R. Just turn in when you see Pizza Hut. I think the road is called Lorong Tunku Abdul Rahman 2. Don't make any mistake here as there are two Chili Pan Mee opposite to each other. One is called Kin Kin which is the one I am writing now. I can't find my post on the other restaurant although I am sure that I am there before a few times if I may add too. Anyway, Kin Kin is regarded as the older more original in terms of taste and ingredients. And so is the environment, as it's not air condition but I can see the the place had been clean up and looks more cleaner now. It was a weekend (Sunday) but still the crowd was so high when I arrived. Luckily I managed to get a table and there is a rule in the place which all customers are required to share table among others.

Walked over and ordered directly from the boss for one dry and one soup chili pan mee. As always, there is only one size so no point asking for a larger portion. So I had ordered two bowl of dry noodle for myself. I think it's a sales gimmick as they can earn twice the value as customers had no choice but to order an extra bowl rather than just adding the portion. But that is just my opinion though.

I saw a lot of people still waiting for their food to be served and decided to start off with something light. A mixture of fish balls, meat balls and foo chuk. Nothing special. Just your usual balls. Just to get you through your waiting process I guess.

Portion for the noodle is moderate. Well that is why I saw a lot of customers ordered 3 bowls for two person. So I followed and quickly ordered a second when I saw the portion. As I mentioned earlier, the shop are famous for their originality. So don't expect good outlook on your bowl of pan mee like the other stalls. Well at least the ingredients are fresh. The boiled egg is a bit poorly done though. Don't get me wrong it's perfectly boiled but maybe it's the way it's being place onto the noodle was a bit too rough for me. You have the usual minced pork and also anchovies on the side and also some spring onions and fried onions.

I think the most important part of the whole bowl of noodle would be the chili. Heck, I drove so far for this bowl of noodle and I would assumed that this must be good. Well, it isn't that bad. Not that spicy. On my rate of 1 to 5 with 5 being the spiciest, it would be 3 I guess. Maybe to some it's spicy but this is nothing to me. Mixed everything together and off we go. A bit too wet for me. Cause after mixing all of the eggs and chili, I would assumed it to be dried up but it's not. Sad~ Noodle is a bit rough and hard too. Maybe undercooked? I had better with Jojo's Kitchen where their noodle are soft and so springy too. Not my best bowl of chili noodle but it's still passable.

Overall, it was alright. The environment is a bit hot and not air condition. So better go early and beat the afternoon sun. The soup pan mee was really large in portion. But I didn't take a photo of it as I was too busy tasting mine at that time. Will I return? Well, if I am in the neighborhood of course. As mentioned, not my best bowl of chili pan mee for the time being. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Jojo Little Kitchen @ SS15

Was introduced to this 'little kitchen' at Subang SS15 by one of my gym mate. Apparently the owner is from her hometown or some sort. The name of the restaurant is called Jojo's Little Kitchen. I saw another branch at Pusat Bandar Puchong the other day with my brother. He told me that the first branch is actually located in Kuchai Lama Entrepreneur Park. Then this should be the third branch or there are more than three branches?

The focus of the food at this restaurant would be their Curry Pan Mee. So what makes a good curry pan mee? Well the chilly flakes of course. Here's a look of the place's chilly flakes. It's not too oily or too many chilly seeds as compared to the one I had at Super Kitchen though. But nevertheless it's really spicy too.

Decided to ordered some side dishes to go before the main. So we had ordered their fried pork. It's slightly oily but it's alright with me. The portion was moderate but justifiable to the price you're paying. A bit thin on the slices and luckily it was still a slightly warm and not totally cold which is a turn down.

This is the normal Pan Mee in the house. First thing we notice about the bowl of noodle is the texture of the noodle itself. It is very different from the one I had at the other restaurant. The one over here are very tangy and you can really feel the springy texture of the noodle when you sink your teeth into it. The bowl of noodle come with the standard sliced mushroom, crunchy anchovies, and minced pork.

This is the noodle which I came there for. It's their curry noodle or pan mee. The texture of the noodle is the same as the normal one which is really nice to eat. Everything looks the same with the one I had over at Super Kitchen. You have the usual suspect such as the red chilly flakes, minced pork, sliced mushroom, crunchy anchovies and boiled egg. Well there is an additional ingredient over here with the additional green chilly paste. It's slightly spicy and sour at the same time so it's very appetizing. You can add more as it's available on each table. The egg is a bit too over boiled so that is the only set back. Other than that the bowl of noodle is delicious. It's not just plain spicy but also salty due to the anchovies which is nice.

This is one of their specialty dish in the house. It's their 'pei dan' dumpling. I am not sure how to translate that into English but you can check out the photo below if you don't get what I mean. A piece of the dumpling cost RM1.50 which is a bit steep but the portion might be able to justify it a bit

Here's the 'Pei Dan' which I mentioned above. The portion or slice of the egg is quite generous. Hence the price of the dumpling. The portion of the meat is also very pack making the dumpling a good side dish to eat together with your noodle. Yummy~!

Overall, the restaurant offers the usual pan mee with addition of their curry soup also. Other than their noodle the place is also famous for their dessert, Dou Foo Fa. I haven't had the chance to try it out but I heard it is good. Visited the place twice within the week so this must be good. Most of the time the restaurant would be quite pack even on weekends. So do try this place out if you have the craving for some spicy noodle. The place is located at the same row as RHB bank facing the main road at Subang Jaya SS15. (Rating: 4.2 out of 5.0)

Killiney Kopitiam @ Uptown

First heard of this place from a friend from Singapore. Found out that they have a few stores locally too and one being at Uptown Damansara. So one night after my usual work out with my friends, I had decided to give this place a try. The name of the place is called Killiney Kopitiam. From the menu I noticed that the kopitiam menu or theme are based on Hainanese style. The origin of this kopitiam actually was from Malacca but due to some reason was relocated to Singapore and the rest was history.

French Toast
This french toast is definitely different from the one we had at Old Town or any other kopitiam. The bread is dipped in egg and fried. Although the bread may look a bit over burn but it tasted nice. The bread is accompanied with their home made kaya and butter. Kaya was really nice but maybe a bit too sweet. Add that together with the butter on the bread and it's perfect.

Singapore Laksa
Saw this laksa from their menu and was tempted to give it a try although I don't really take this kind of heavy meal after my work out. Was surprised that the soup was not as red as shown in the menu. But they did gave some belacan to go with it. I like everything of the noodle but the noodle itself. I am not sure why they use the noodle like one the in asam laksa. I think I like my noodle to be those local yellow noodle. But this is one good bowl of noodle.

Yes, I finished the whole bowl off to the last drop of soup. It was really that nice.

Surprisingly the shop wasn't that pack like any other kopitiam around the area. But then again it's good that it's not too crowded so the food is served faster. Not sure bout morning and afternoon though. Will definitely give it another try next week or so. Other then the one we had, they also serve Hainanese Chicken Chop, Mee Siam and some other toast bread. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Super Kitchen Curry Pan Mee @ SS2

Can't really remember how many had I visited this practically restaurant. But this is their 4th branch which is located at SS2. Actually it's the same row as Kayu Nasi Kandar at Chow Yang. Noticed the shop one day after I had lunch with my family last weekend.

This is the Pork Balls with Foo Chuk soup. The pork balls are aplenty and lots of vegetable. Pork ball isn't much special but just normal ones. Nothing special bout the soup but just a normal pork balls soup. (RM 4.00 - small portion)

This is their special blend and cooked chilly paste which people came each day to try out. Please do take note that it's really spicy and for those with sensitive bowel syndrome or tummy, please don't over do it. But there is some over cook scent in their chilly paste which I found out.

So this is their famous Dry Chilly Noodle served with minced pork, fried crunchy onions, fresh crunch anchovy and steamed boiled egg. Mixed that all up with the chilly paste on top and you got yourself one hell of a spicy and dry pan mee. (RM5.50)

As we're not full yet, we had decided to ordered their Water Dumpling (Sui Kao). Actually it wasn't half bad at all. The ingredient in the dumpling was pack and fresh. Soup is the same as the one above. A very nice dish for some light eating. (RM 5.00 - small portion)

Overall it was a rather filling lunch for me and my friend. This is definitely a noodle which all must try if you like spicy food. But I don't think that you will eat this noodle each and everyday. For one it's not really good for your tummy to be that 'exciting' the whole day after eating it. You will feel your tummy a bit hot and grouchy. You can find their other branches in Kota Damansara and also Kepong. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Jalan Jelutong @ Penang Island

Second day of my makan trip up North and the location that we 'invaded' this time around is located along Jalan Jelutong. I am not sure how to describe the location but it's located just next to the road. It's called Kafe Bamboo. Heard that their Curry Noodle is something to brag about.

Yes, they serve yellow noodle and not just kuey teow. This is my first bowl of Curry Noodle up North as I don't normally take curry noodle over here as it's not thick and spicy, the way I like it. But since, it's recommended, so I just try my luck.

The gravy wasn't that thick so logically I assumed that it's not that spicy. Hence, I added one BIG scoop of chilly paste on my bowl. Believe me when I say, BIG. Something I found out about Northern curry noodle, it's not thick, it's not spicy, lots of pig's blood, fish balls and squids. Well other than the pig's blood, this is an above average Curry Noodle. Not the best I had but still acceptable.

Found out that there is one stall selling Apong outside the restaurant. Wasn't that much into this 'snack' in the beginning but I was so into it later on. As it was really nice.

One of my friend was so into Apong and she bought so many to share with us. This had to be the best Apong I had over my trip up North. The middle portion is thick with flour but not too sweet, just nice.

I saw a stall selling Chicken and Pork Rice next to the Char Kuey Teow stall and decided to gave it a try. Since the Char Siew look so juicy and fresh. Nothing to brag about, just alright.

Just want to show what is the different in the amount of chilly paste I added into my bowl of curry noodle. On top is the one with the standard portion while mine is the one below which is dark red with oil in it. LOL! That is why I didn't finish the soup up or else I need to run to the nearby clinic to check my cholesterol level after that.

Golden Egg Noodle

This is a place I randomly choose for lunch last Saturday with my family. It's located at Pusat Bandar Puchong. Same row as Old Town Kopitiam. The place serve noodles and also fried rice. The have 4 type of noodle which made from seaweed, coriander, pumpkin and chilli. The place was packed when I arrived but still managed to get a table inside.

So we had decided to try out their famous Dry Golden Pan Mee with Pumpkin Thin Noodle. Feedback from SIL and Romiko was positive. So I guess you can give this a try if you want.

Mom decided to try out their Dry Curry Chicken Pan Me which was quite OK but the scent wasn't that strong. Maybe I like my curry hot and spicy the way they should be.

As for me, I ordered their Golden Fried Rice which was alright. Nothing spectacular but just a decent fried rice with prawns and eggs. They didn't named the dish Golden for nothing now.

Mom wanted Dumpling so I had ordered 6 pcs of dumpling in soup. The dumping had a lot of coriander stuffed inside instead of meat. Well for those who like coriander, this is your favourite.

Altogether it was a nice lunch with slightly special type of noodle. They have this Golden Pan Mee which was recommended and I haven't got the chance to try it. Maybe I will come back and maybe not. But one thing for sure, I won't drive all the way to Puchong for this noodle. The whole meal cost me RM 38.00. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5.0)

Ah Loy Curry Noodle - OUG Garden

I had been waiting to blog bout this place for quite some time but I don't seemed to have the time. It's a place located behind Steven Corner. Opposite the petrol station. You can't miss it actually. The place is called Ah Loy Curry Noodle. It has been operating for many of years from Penang. Yes, it's authentic Penang curry noodle, or what they claimed.
The boss is always there and will come over to serve you if he's free. So what do they served other than curry noodle. Well they have Fried Minced Meat (Yong Tau Foo). It's freshly fried and displayed on the tray for you to pick. I had picked a few which I normally ordered. The price for their side dishes ranges from 60 to 90cents per piece. Quite pricey I guess. For the main dish, I had ordered their Curry Noodle minus the bean sprout. There's chicken and some fried bean curd in it. I like it cause the curry is thick and a tit spicy. Just the way I like my curry. The portion was quite large even for a normal size.

The placed also served economy noodles and chee cheong fun. The place will mostly be packed during lunch hour. It's air conditioned thank god. So do drop by this place and try it out if you like curry noodle. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Restaurant Aneka Selera Chicken Cuisine - Glenmarie

It was around 11.30am when I called up MD for lunch. The location, I had suggested Restaurant Aneka Selera Chicken Cuisine in Glenmarie. The place offers a lot of food varying from economy rice, pork noodles and pan mee but specialize in Curry Noodle and Yong Tau Fu. I had came over the place numerous times, but it was MD's first visit. But as he got a sore throat, so he can't ordered the Curry Mee. But instead he ordered the Pork Noodle in Soup. As for me, Curry Mee with Yong Tau Foo of course. Most of the patron came from the commercial lot nearby as this is the only Chinese Restaurant around the area. Initially I had suggested to eat Meng Kee Famous Char Siew which is on the same row. But too much pork for MD. So diverted to this place. One word of advice, it's self service. So you need to go to the counter to order and wait for the food to be served. But it's very fast. So you won't be waiting for 5 mins. The water they sold was expensive too, Herbal Tea for Rm2.00.

Their curry soup is definitely hot and spicy. The owner do not give extra soup as they afraid that we can't finish the original one. Standard curry mee consists of Kangkung, Half of an egg, Tau Foo, Curry Chicken + Potatoes. I had added in 3 pieces of Yong Tau Foo side dishes. Trust me, it's really good but a lot of oil in it. What do you expect, it's curry. The color was really what a true curry soup should look like, red and lots of oil (ok, maybe not lots of oil). The curry chicken was nice and tender too. But I like my soup to be more thicker and spicier. Fresh Kangkung as it's very crunchy. The Yong Tau Foo was nice too. But the price was a bit high, RM 6.60 (inclusive of all the side dishes) and it's a standard bowl. I didn't ordered a larger one as I'm afraid I can't finished it. So for those who like Curry Mee, this is truly a place I would recommend. (Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0)

The Curry Pan Mee Shop - Kota Damansara (revisited)

It's my 5th visit to this restaurant if I am not mistaken. This time around, I had brought my brother's family over. We arrived around noon and the place was already crowded with customers. Wow~! What a big changed since the last time I had visited the place.

So anyway, I had ordered the normal Dried Curry Pan Mee and so did my brother and sister in law.

Romiko as usual took her Soup Pan Mee.

We had also ordered some wan ton for dessert. The wan ton was nice as it's not the usual which we ate. It's juicy and the portion was large too. The price for the Dried Pan Mee is RM 5.50 and the Soup is RM 6.00 (Rating : 8.0 out of 10.0).
