Little Lim Penang Pancake @ Jalan 223

Found this place outside Restaurant Ah Wa during dinner tonight. Saw a lot of people queuing up for some pancake at this small stall outside. A friend got interested and walk over to have a look. The stall is called Little Lim Penang Pancke.

As the name goes, it's Penang style pancake. Think Malay style pancake which you normally found in the night market and add those with some peanut butter and banana. Price ranges from as low as RM1.90 to RM4.90 per piece. You can have a simple combination of Chocolate, Banana, Peanut, Sweet Corn, Cheese and banana and mix them all around. For something more expensive you can have a combination of Egg, Ham and Mayonaise. So go crazy with your imagination.

We have no idea what to expect, so we had go with insticnt and ordered peanut, butter with banana. I think what attracts so much people to queue up for this pancake is their variety which you can choose from. And also the fresh hot crunchy feeling when you sink your teeth into these pancakes. As always, you need to consume this pancakes while they're hot and crunchy or they'll be all cold and mooshy. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5.0)

Restaurant Beggar's Chicken Bukit Jugra @ Banting

Received a call from babe on Thursday asking me if I'll be free for dinner with her family this Sunday. The venue is the famous Beggar's Chicken at Banting. I straight away say Yes and the rest was history. Took me around 1 hour from Bukit Tinggi to arrive at destination. It was an old house cum restaurant opposite a Chinese Temple.

Straight away went into the area where they prepare the famous Beggar's Chicken. As you can see from the pictures above, there's a lot of clay and charcoal involves. All the chickens are arranged in order underneath all the clay. There's a stack of charcoal inside the room and also some mud to wrapped the chicken in. It takes around 2 days to prepare so we had pre-ordered on last Friday.

First that come on the table is the Famous Beggar's Chicken which we all been waiting for. There were more than 20 people so there's two big table with 3 chickens. The chicken was really moist and the scent of the herbs they utilized are strong. Mental note, quickly finish off the chicken as it is not that tasty once it gets cold and dry. But to me it's nothing much different from the herbal chicken wrapped we all eat in the pasar malam. But that is just me.

I heard that the beggar's chicken had involved into more variety like the second dish which is the Beggar's Pig Leg. Man, I was amazed when I unwrapped the pig's leg. It was enormous. Fat was everywhere but it was so damn nice. For me, I like the pig's leg more than the chicken but there wasn't much lean meat on it.

When I saw this, I thought, Beggar's Rice? Well almost. It's their Traditional Rice or Glutinous Rice with lots of chicken and mushroom in it. Everyone was really enjoying this dish but it was just alright for me. Maybe I had better ones before this.

Beggar's Soup? Sorry sorry, I am carried away with all the beggar's food. This is their Longevity Soup. It's actually what we call Spicy Chicken Soup which is famous in Seri Kembangan and also Semenyih. This is less spicy if compared to the others but the taste of the soup was soothing and nice. Chicken was tender and the portion was generous.

I think even beggars need their green and here's the only vegetable of the night. Nothing much to comment bout the vegetable but it's fresh and crunchy.

This is another famous dish from the restaurant which is their Stewed Chicken & Pig's Feet with Intestines. For me it was just another mixture of chicken and pork but for others it was finger licking good. So it's very objective.

This is the Fried Oyster with Egg. The portion was damn large. But the significant differnt between the one we normally eat and the one over here is that the lack of stach they use. So it would be more healthier compared to the one we had but lack the sticky texture. So it's a give and take for me. We had also ordered Fried Eggs with onions but I didn't took any picture of it as it's almost similar to the one we had anywhere.

And the food just kept on pouring in one after the other. This is their Talapia Fish which is minced all together and then blended and fried and sliced into shaped before placing it back to form the original form. Lots of work but some of the relatives said that the fish isn't that fresh? Well for me, it was alright. Wasn't much into Talapia so not my plate of fish in this case.

Last but not least, Spicy Crab which is the last 1kg in their restaurant tonight. It was fresh and spicy and the sauce really did sips into the meat and all. But didn't have chance to enjoy it as I had already had enough after the last dish when this arrived.

So how was the food? Well for me, if you haven't tried Beggar's Chicken, then it's OK to try. But once you try it, there is no reason to go back again unless it's for a special occasion. For me the beggar's chicken is very similar to the one we had at the night market. I think they called it paper wrapped chicken or herbal wrapped chicken.

So how much did we spent on the two table of towering foods? Beats me. The others were still drinking when we left around 8.30pm. So better come early around 6pm or so when the sky is bright and shinny. Leave early as the road going out is quite dark. Even have time to give some prayers before I left. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5.0)

Restaurant Ah Wa @ Jalan 223

It was Saturday night and me and my babe decided to have a late dinner since we have an early lunch. Ya, I know it doesn't make sense. Anyway, our initial plan was to go Medan Selera @ 223 for some Kak Siti's nasi lemak panas but decided to have Hokkien noodle instead. The place? Where else but Ah Wa which is just nearby Jalan 223.

I had ordered a two pax Hokkien Noodle as we had some Penang Lobak while waiting for the dish to come. Tonight it was extra delicious as it wasn't that watery and the taste was just superb. The control of the fire and wok is really important to cook up with such a delicious plate of hokkien noodle. (RM12/plate)

What is the most important food to go with Hokkien noodle? Fried Lard of course. I had asked for extra and the good fella brought me a whole lot of it. I was really surprised as it was one whole plate full of fresh fried lards.

Why another same picture? Actually we had decided to ordered a second plate as the first was so delicious. And the second plate doesn't disappoint us too. But we had ordered a single pax for this plate. (RM 6/plate)

I guess the best time to go over for their Hokkien noodle or any of their noodle would be around 10pm or later as there won't be that much of people waiting or queuing for their order. So the chef do not need to rush for the food to go out hence a better quality of food being deliver to us. Don't get me wrong, the place was almost full when I arrived just now but not over crowded like dinner time. So please plan your time and make it trip over. Definitely better than Damansara Hokkien noodle and also Kim Lian Kee at Jalan Petaling and maybe even Weng Hing at Jalan Imbi. Two thumbs up. (Rating: 4.5 out of 5.0)

Bellygood @ Sunway Mentari

It was my second visit to Bellygood and this time around it was my friends who wanted to try it out after some good reviews from my previous post. So 7 of us arrived after gym on a Friday night and luckily there wasn't much people when we arrived.

This is one of the recommended dish of the place which is their Mixed Platter which is served with Coleslaw and Mash Potatoes at the side. It come with both grilled pork belly and also pork ribs served under their House special rib & belly sauce. This dish is totally your best choice if you wanted to try both their pork belly and baby ribs. (RM23.90)

This is the Grilled Pork Belly with Original Sauce served with Coleslaw and Mash Potatoes. It depends if you like the scent taste of pork or not. As the taste of pork are rather strong with the original sauce compared to the Spicy sauce below. Coleslaw are fresh and the mash potatoes are rough and I think they added something in it which tasted really nice. (RM21.90)

This is the Grilled Pork Belly with Spicy sauce served with Mash Potatoes and Coleslaw. The taste on of pork on this piece of belly isn't that strong as it was covered by the spicy sauce. The pork belly for both the dishes are really soft and tender. Truly succulent. (RM21.90)

I wanted to have something light and decided to order their Pulled Pork Burger which also come with French Fries and Coleslaw, just the way I like it. It is braised and roasted pork meat pull apart by hand (hence the name) topped with mayo and minced onions. Nothing much to say on the burger as it was just minced pork with mayo on it. But I was totally full when I finish off the side dishes. (RM12.90)

Last but not least, the Sausages Platter. It come with 4 type of sausages which consists of pork chorizo, pork oriental, spicy Hungarian served with French Fries and Thai chilly sauce. The sausages was really pack and juicy. They might taste the same at one point but it still a very good dish to share among friends. (RM26.90)

Cleansed all the pork down with a pot of Earl Grey as always for me. (RM6.90) The night's dinner was truly fulfilling and everyone was satisfied with their choices. Sat down and chatted till they decided to close for the night and we left a full stomach and thoughts of a second round. (Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0)

Super Kitchen Curry Pan Mee @ SS2

Can't really remember how many had I visited this practically restaurant. But this is their 4th branch which is located at SS2. Actually it's the same row as Kayu Nasi Kandar at Chow Yang. Noticed the shop one day after I had lunch with my family last weekend.

This is the Pork Balls with Foo Chuk soup. The pork balls are aplenty and lots of vegetable. Pork ball isn't much special but just normal ones. Nothing special bout the soup but just a normal pork balls soup. (RM 4.00 - small portion)

This is their special blend and cooked chilly paste which people came each day to try out. Please do take note that it's really spicy and for those with sensitive bowel syndrome or tummy, please don't over do it. But there is some over cook scent in their chilly paste which I found out.

So this is their famous Dry Chilly Noodle served with minced pork, fried crunchy onions, fresh crunch anchovy and steamed boiled egg. Mixed that all up with the chilly paste on top and you got yourself one hell of a spicy and dry pan mee. (RM5.50)

As we're not full yet, we had decided to ordered their Water Dumpling (Sui Kao). Actually it wasn't half bad at all. The ingredient in the dumpling was pack and fresh. Soup is the same as the one above. A very nice dish for some light eating. (RM 5.00 - small portion)

Overall it was a rather filling lunch for me and my friend. This is definitely a noodle which all must try if you like spicy food. But I don't think that you will eat this noodle each and everyday. For one it's not really good for your tummy to be that 'exciting' the whole day after eating it. You will feel your tummy a bit hot and grouchy. You can find their other branches in Kota Damansara and also Kepong. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Restaurant Yip Weng @ Bandar Puteri (3rd Branch)

I was going over to Thirty Two Bistro last Friday night and I happened to noticed that there was a new restaurant which catch my attention. Restaurant Bak Kut Teh Klang Yip Weng. Yip Weng's BKT could be one of the best I had ever had. I am so into their dry BKT and I heard that they served one of the first of it's kind too. I had ordered their set meal which is for 2 ~ 3 pax. It consists of one bowl of dry & wet BKT, vegetable, golden mushroom and two glasses of Chinese tea. The whole set cost RM25.

I doesn't have high hope on the wet BKT as I am very fussy of the taste and scent of the soup. I was really taken aback when I sipped in the soup. It was really thick and the taste of herbs was really strong, just the way I like it. The pork was tender and I had ordered half lean half fat for both the bowl.

This is the main dish or the one which I am waiting for. I really have high hope for their Dry BKT. As their branch at Taman Sentose served the best Dry BKT I had ever had. And it didn't disappoint me at all. There were a lot of sliced lady finger and fried squids in it which is very appetizing. Portion was really generous which I was really surprised. One word, superb. Really on par with the one from Taman Sentosa.

I am not sure why they separate the golden mushroom with the main bowl, but anyway it come with the menu. It's soft and plenty too.

They have a few choices of vegetable to order and I had choose their Yau Mak. My gosh, the portion was really large. The vegetable was fresh and there were a lot of onions on top which I really love.

The place had just opened for operation for two weeks and customers had already been pouring in. For a location which is still new and the amount of traffic over the location, business was really good. I'd just realized that they have another branch in Kepong and PJ but didn't managed to know where is the exact location though. This is definitely one of the best BKT I had to date. So in the future, I don't have to drive all the way down Sentosa for a good bowl of BKT. (Rating: 4.5 out of 5.0)

Tian Pin Ge Ge @ Kepong (2nd Visit)

This is my second visit to this place. It was because my friend's gf wanted to have some dessert after our rendezvous at Petaling Street. The place is located behind HSBC after you pass by Carrefour on your right.

Babe again ordered their Mango Rolls. It is as good as the first time we taste it. Cold and nice. Not too sweet but just nice. (RM8)

This is their Pomelo and Sago in Mango sweet soup with ice-cream. The combination of the slight bitter of pomelo and the sweet mango and ice cold ice cream was just nice. (RM10)

This is the Mango Glutinous Rice Rolls which supposed to be cold in the inside while the glutinous outside wrapping it should be warm. It wasn't that cold this time around but still a nice dessert as the mango was fresh. (RM7)

I forgot the exact name but it's actually some sort of coconut pudding. This is really nice as the texture isn't that soft and not that hard but just nice. And it's not that sweet too but still maintaining the taste of the coconut.

Last but not least one of my favourite dessert over there, which is a combination of Black Pearl Sago with Mango, Banana and Longan with grape seeds. After tasting this dessert, you won't be tasting the other dessert anymore as it's so full of sweetness. A bit filling for me. (RM12)

Restaurant Kim Lian Kee @ Jalan Petaling

I wanted to go to Petaling Street to look around as it has been few months since I was there. Babe was hungry so I had decided to go eat Hokkien Noodle at Kim Lian Kee which is located at the heart of Petaling Street or to be exact the cross road. I think most of the people should have eat here before or at least heard of this place before this.

I had waited for about 10 minutes before getting a table and it was just 7.30pm. What a small world as I was eating half way, I saw MD. Small small world. And he was looking for a table at that time, so we shared. Sharing is caring right.

The belacan here is really nice and is not that spicy too. Add a pinch of lemon into it and it's perfect.

So this is the main course of the night, Hokkien Noodle. I had ordered their Hokkien Noodle mix with vermicelli. Hence the whole dish was a bit dryer than the normal Hokkien we ate else where. I like my Hokkien noodle to be dry and not black. But still, Ah Wa Hokkien noodle is still the best.

This is the pork with cabbage soup which my friend had ordered. The special part is that the sliced pork is dipped with flour and then boil in hot water. So the meat is a bit spongy or tangy when you bite on it.

This is the Sing Chow Mai or Fried Vermicelli with eggs, minced pork, onions and bean sprout. The dish came 30minutes late but it's surprisingly nice.

Word of advice when you order your food, Hokkien noodle is their best seller, so you won't have to wait long for the food to be serve. If you wanted something else like what I ordered, you will need to prepare to wait for it. They are also famous for their Loh Mee, Yin Yong and also Kon Chow Hor. Extra lard is on request but it's chargeable. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)
