Oriental Pavilion @ Jaya 33

I had always heard good reviews from this restaurant and when a friend asked me for lunch, I quickly agreed to it. The name of the restaurant is Oriental Pavilion which was formerly situated inside Jaya Supermarket previously. It's located inside Jaya 33 right now. The place was quite busy during lunch hour but luckily we managed to get a table. We went through the menu and decided to go with dim sum rather than fried rice or noodle. My friend said something which caught my attention that day. He said that, a person averaging consume 3 sets of dim sum and that would just be enough. Anything more than that would be too much. Interesting~!
Steamed Siew Mai - RM7.00
It took some time before the siew mai was served. From the looks of it, it's not as I imagine it would be. It's a bit dry and not that good. Taste wise, it's just normal and nothing special. You can have this outside anywhere. The best I had would still be Grand Imperial. Their price are RM1 more expensive too over here.

Steamed Shredded Mushroom Dumpling - RM7.00
Again there are nothing special about this dish. The skin isn't that thick but maybe it's just the lack of taste and texture of the dim sum itself. Nothing special really.

Shredded Bean Curd Roll with Thai Sauce - RM6.00
I was really looking forward for this but sadly when it arrived, I lost my appetite. As you can see, the Thai sauce isn't wrapped around the bean curd but spilled all over the plate. I think it's the way they prepared the dish is the main problem. A good dish gone wrong. Wasted~!

Steamed Imperial Har Kau - RM7.00
The name is so good. But I am not a big fan of Har Kau anyway. The prawns are fresh but if I remembered correctly, the dish isn't that hot anyway.

Char Siew Bao
I had high hope on this. My friends said it was good but the flour is too thick for me and the sauce isn't that tasty. Again, the one I had over at Grand Imperial is one of the best I had till date.

Chicken Leg in Sweet & Sour Sauce
We didn't really ordered this but when they brought it over, my friend decided to give it a try. Again I am not a big fan of the dish. We didn't finished the dish at the end as it wasn't that tasty. The sauce was just normal and nothing particularly interesting.

Steamed Fish Ball - RM5.00
Sorry, no comment since I didn't even tasted one. My friend tried it and said it was just normal.

Roasted Pork (Siew Yuk)
The portion was alright and quite tasty. The upper layer are crunchy and the layer of fat and lean meat are evenly distributed too. This could be the highlight of my luncheon.

Loh Mai Kai - RM6.00
Surprisingly this is good. There are a lot of ingredients too. Namely mushroom, slice abalone, boneless chicken and scallop. This is one good dish.

Hokkien Noodle with Extra Lard
This is definitely something that I wouldn't imagine that I would eat during dim sum session, Hokkien Noodle. The waitress mentioned that it's one of their recommended dish over there. We ordered with extra fried lard too and extra it is. The whole plate was covered by lard when it arrived. Not the best I had, but definitely worth my money.

So how was the lunch? Overall, it wasn't that spectacular or good as I heard. The highlight of the luncheon would be the roasted pork and loh mai kai. Will I be back? I don't think so. Might be going back if someone bought me lunch. Maybe the a la carte are better. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Kissaten @ IOI Boulevard

There are so many new mix commercial buildings coming up in Puchong itself that I can't even follow with. I had passed by this new building called IOI Boulevard which is opposite IOI Mall for so many times but didn't have the chance to really go down and check it out. Well not until last weekend that is. You can see Umagi right in front of the place. There are other restaurants in the building but it's not fully occupied yet. I saw another German restaurant serving their local dishes but decided to give this restaurant a try which is opposite from each other. The name of the restaurant is called Kissaten, it means Cafe in Japanese.

If you saw the picture above, you noticed that the place is separated into two entrance being one for coffee and restaurant while the other for beer. Yes, the place served beer and German beer that is. They do have Sake but they are more focused on promoting Paulaner from the looks of it. They had plenty of Paulaner placed around the restaurant. They do served cakes and dessert too if you wanted something light. And they served Haagen Dazs ice cream in the house too.

Their menu are big and very clear with plenty of beautiful pictures in them. They have this promo for 'buy 2 set free 1 set' for both dinner and lunch for weekdays. So if you are dining in for three, this is a good treat for you. I can say that the place served similar concept as Pasta Zanmai. They served fusion of Japanese and Western food together. But the variation of pasta in Zanmai are more varied whereas over here they have Steaks, Teppanyaki Burger, Pizzas and Udon. As mentioned earlier, they do served sets so do look at the end of the menu for them. Prices for lunch and dinner varies which I am not sure why. Maybe the size is different?

Both of us had ordered Green Tea whereas mine comes with the set. Yes, it's refillable and they are very prompt with that too. Good point here.

Katsu Curry Chicken - RM18.90
Babe decided to try their Katsu Curry Chicken Rice which was really large in portion. The chicken was plenty too. She couldn't even finished the chicken and rice at the end. Although the curry smells like any other Japanese restaurant but the texture over here are different. If you look carefully it's not that smooth. I think this is due to the pre-preparation of the gravy. I had better at Pasta Zanmai but this is not bad.

Katsudon Set - RM24.80
As mentioned earlier the set comes with all the side dishes. The portion of the katsudon was really large. Even for me. There were really a lot of chicken on top of that bowl of rice. Egg was even distributed and it's still hot. It shows how fresh it is. As any other Katsudon, there's onions and egg being mixed together with the chicken and cooked before pouring it on top of the rice. Delicious, but anything more would be too much.

Here's the side dishes which I mentioned earlier which comprises of Miso Soup, Cawanmushi, and Oshink. In the menu it shows a salad type of dessert sort of like coleslaw but they given me something else. Maybe they are out of salad. But anyhow, you will surely be full after finishing all of the above.

The place is really new so all the seats and table are clean and brand new. There are plenty of seats even for large groups of people as both of the restaurants are linked to each another. The staffs are attentive and service is good. Will definitely return to try out their pizza and also the steak burgers. And before I forgot, they have another outlet which I think opened before this at Palm Square Jaya One. So for those who work in PJ, you can try it out over there too. (Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0)

Thye Hong @ Singapore

Actually I'd my hand with Singapore Hokkien Prawn Noodle first locally but someone told me that I should try the one from Singapore. So I had decided to give that advice a try. It was dinner and I was walking around and there were a long queue and when I walked over, they were all queuing up for the Hokkien Prawn Noodle.

I had been to numerous food stall which they called Food Republic over there and all of the stalls selling the noodle had a long queue. But sadly to say, I saw that the noodle are mass product. Which means that the chef would cooked up a batch and divide among the customers. But I won't judge the book by it's cover so I decided to give it a try anyway.

They offer three portion sizes which starts from $4.50, $6.50 and $9. I asked how does a small looks like, and it was large to me. A medium could feed two people. Even the small portion could be shared by two girls. It was really special as the noodle was served on some leaves and as you can see, the noodles are wet. I am not that fancy with that but I will give it a try. Prawns are plenty and large. Take a bite and it really do taste good and slightly better than the one I had over here. The chilly paste was really a match to the noodle. (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Wen Heng @ Kinrara

I was driving around Kinrara with babe looking for a place for an early dinner when I thought about this place. My last visit would be 2 years back which didn't really leave a good impression. But the place is so pack most of the time and I can still remembered the last visit was so hot and stuffy as it was a full house. Was crossing my fingers this time around hoping that this time would be better as there wasn't much customers when we arrived.

At the front of the shop you could see one section dedicated for cooking all their soups. They have all kind of Chinese soup which you could mumble out. We decided to order a pot to share while waiting for our food. You could actually smell the nice strong scent of the soups when you pass by.

On the other side of the restaurant, you could see a lot of claypot being cook by the maestro. Yes, it's the owner and also the main chef of the restaurant. It's really a sight if you arrived around dinner seeing him cooking all the pots at the same time. I was surprised when I saw him pour some beer into a glass to cleanse his thirst in between cooking. But heck, I don't really care as long as the food is good.

We had decided to order 'Sai Yong Choy' soup. There's plenty of vegetable and also a few large chunk of chicken in the pot. Soup was hot and the scent was just alright.

Since we arrived early, they didn't have the large claypot so we ordered two small (single). I had also asked for extra salted fish and also Chinese sausages. I was right, the food was better this time around. Reason was because my last visit was during peak hour and the chef might be rushing for food to go out hence the quality is not there. Now I finally tasted the real deal. The rice was just right not too hard and not too wet. The black sauce was sufficient for the whole pot which is really important too. This is really a treat.

From my review above you could have guess that this is a good visit for me. The place wasn't pack and the food was good. Almost on the same par with the one from Damansara Utama which I had previously. The place starts their business at 5pm and end at 10pm. I would recommend that you come before 6pm so that you can beat the dinner crowd. Try not to come during the rush hour as you will need to wait for almost 30mins or more and the taste might not be as good as I had. (Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0)

Kitchen Creatures @ Center Point

A friend was snapped a picture of her lunch for me few weeks back of this place. I saw this place previously but didn't had the chance to try it out. Feedback was, it's alright. OK, that is good enough for me to go over to give it a try. Since it's located at Center Point, it's just a few steps away from my lunch buddy's office. It was previously Manhattan's Fish Market if I am not mistaken. It's above Starbucks if you are familiar with Center Point at Petaling Jaya. The name of the place is quite interesting, Kitchen Creatures, no frills dining.

So what does no frills dining means? Well it's actually their concept of serving great food and value for money with no extra charges. In other words, the prices stated in the menu are all nett and tax free. Cause they believe that it's their pleasure to serve and we do no need to pay extra for their services. They served their food with only fresh ingredients set by Creature George with NO MSG. I can say it's true since I don't felt any thirst since lunch. Went straight to the menu which is made out of two piece card paper. How simple and nice. Totally love the motto above, "The only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for your steak to cook" by George The Wise. Browsed through their menu and was really surprised with the pricing. It was really cheap. But could the portion be small?

Monsterised Beef Burger - RM10 nett
Since I am craving for big juicy burgers these days, I had ordered their monsterised beef burger. You can choose chicken if you don't take beef. It's loaded with pickles, onion rings, lettuce, cheese, egg, beef bacon, chicken ham and served with frizzle fries. I was totally surprised with the size of the burger and also the patties. The portion was really generous for the price that I am paying. They even throw in the ham and bacon which I was really happy with.

A closer view of the big juicy patties. Yes, the patties was really fat and juicy. The bread are freshly prepared as it's still a bit crunchy and not soft. The fries are freshly fried too so you can still feel the crunchiness. The egg makes me felt like it's a big local, like the one we had from Ramli Burger. A nice touch out of it.

Bacon Carbonara - RM10 nett
They had 8 pastas to choose from their menu which is good. Since I am a pasta lover too. You can choose between bacon or chicken carbonara with the same price. The portion was generous too with the amount of pasta and also bacon. Sauce is rich and creamy the way it should be but lack some herbs taste. It's a good plate of pasta but we had better over at Louisiana. But for the price you're paying, this is really worth it.

Limey George - RM7 nett
We had browsed through the menu and realized that the drinks are some what pricey. Maybe they are compensating back the price of the food on the drinks. But I am alright with it. We had ordered this creature special drink called Limey George which actually consists of Ribenna, Sprite and Lemon. You can even make this at home but heck, a glass of ice lemon tea already cost RM6, so we ordered this special drink.

The place is divided into two separate section, but I am not sure if the one outside is for smokers or not. But the one we're seated which is inside and next to the windows are really nice. Since the windows are all tinted with blue films (hence the blue colors on my pictures) the ambiance are really calm and nice. Not too crowded during lunch hour, maybe still new? Other than pasta and burgers, they also serve Grilled Lamb, Chicken Cutlet, Fish & Chips, Mixed Grills, Steaks, Sandwiches and Pizzas. Totally love the place as the food are really good and worth the money. Last tip before I sign off, order the tea in a pot and share with a friend on your next trip to save more.
